Queen Victoria died in January of 1901. While
Edward, as the Prince of Wales, was immediately proclaimed King, his
long awaited Royal Ascension to the Throne required a Coronation.
With conclusion of the Boer War on June 1, 1902 a Coronation was set for
June 26th but Edward had to wait yet again due to a medical crisis. He
rapidly recovered and the Coronation of King Edward VII was set for
August 9th. Here is the Official Royal United Services Institution
Program from Whitehall.
Even if you do not purchase this Official Original
Royal Processional Program, you should read and copy all the pages for
your own records. It is a fascinating glimpse into the ordered and regal
pageantry of a Grand Coronation, one of the last from the Age of
Innocence. Read about the thousands of mounted guards, the stately
procession of carriages with their carefully placed royalty and heads of
state from around the world - all arranged by protocol, follow the
timetable of cannon volleys as they mark each step of the coronation
process including a 62 gun salute from the Tower of London at the
precise moment the Crown is placed on Edward's head. It lists in detail
the 1,333 Officers, 23,378 Troops, 2,080 Band and Drummers and the 4,104
Horse Mounted Cavalry. This is a complete Who's Who from the Edwardian
Age all ranked by titles, dignities and commissions. This is a lovely
original item from the day of Edward's Coronation. |
