Document Specifications: In Memoriam Card measures 7" wide x 9" tall and is black edged with sculpted (embossed) angels facing a tomb inscribed "THY WILL BE DONE O LORD" produced by Wood and dated 1871. The image was scanned against a black background to highlight the cut-outs, but the black area is actually open. There is a slight paper separation along the angels wings and some age discoloration. Condition is otherwise very fine. A beautiful, ornate example of a Victorian Gothic In Memoriam funeral card of a decorated veteran of the Napoleonic War. Includes photo (not vintage) of James Hilton's Victoria Medal with campaign bars as shown. |
